Shipping equipment to Australia
Schedule your equipment to arrive in Australia at least eight days before you want it at the telescope. Make sure it is addressed clearly to:

Advise administration of the flight number, scheduled date and time of arrival at Sydney airport, the name of your Customs Agent in Sydney, and the airwaybill number of your shipment.
Goods not owned by the AAT
If the equipment is not owned by the AAT it is best to procure a carnet to cover the goods. Obtaining a carnet is the correct (and therefore quickest) method of importation.
All goods for temporary importation must be examined by Australian Customs on entry into Australia and again before leaving the country (it will invariably be a different customs officer conducting each examination), so it is essential that each separate article in your crate is properly described and valued on an invoice document. This means you will need to stamp or otherwise mark an identifying number on each article before it is packed and then ensure your documentation describes each numbered article. Highlight those articles which may require careful handling by an examiner.
The normal requirement is that the goods leave Australia within 12 months of their importation into the country. If the goods do not leave Australia in the specified time, you will be billed for any penalties on the AAO by Australian Customs in respect of your equipment.
