KOALA Proposals

Proposals to use KOALA are accepted for either visitor mode or service mode observing. See Applying for time on the AAT for more information on the application process.

Before preparing a KOALA proposal, interested astronomers should review "Part I: Overview of KOALA and AAOmega" of the KOALA+AAOmega Manual. That section provides all the necessary information to decide if KOALA is suitable for a particular science case and to prepare an observing proposal. In addition to the printable manual, there are the interactive tools listed below:

• AAOmega Exposure time Calculator (use tab "ITC" and chose "KOALA" for AAOmega): Provides estimates of instrument performace for a particular setup and target surface brightness.
• AAOmega Grating Calculator (be sure to chose "IFU" in "Mode"): Provides information on expected wavelength coverage and resolution for a particular configuration of the spectrograph.
